DFI's Qseven Module Based on the Freescale i.MX6 Processor Targets Automotive Application

2014/05/14 (UTC-6)

DFI launches a new Qseven module, FS700, which is powered by the latest Freescale i.MX6 processor. By combining power-efficient processing capabilities of the ARM Cortex-A9 architecture, with bleeding edge 3D and 2D graphics as well as high-definition video, the FS700 module provides a new level of multimedia performance to enable an unbounded next-generation user experience.

FS700 reaches a new level of power versus performance by supporting the scalable family of single, dual and quad-core processors. Single-core and dual-core designs provide cost-effective performance while quad-core processor supports much higher performance at low power for the most demanding application. Thanks to its i.MX 6 processor, the module enhances comprehensive security by cryptographic accelerators, high-assurance boot and tamper protection. The platform is designed with onboard 1GB/2GB DDR3 and 4GB/8GB/16GB eMMC as well as I²S audio interface. In order to provide additional storage, the module is packed with 1 SDIO/MMC socket. FS700 takes full advantage of the ARM Cortex-A9 cores by providing a broad range of interfaces like 1 HDMI, 2 LVDS, 1 PCIe x1, 1 I²C, 1 CAN-bus, 4 USB, 1 USB OTG, 1 SATA, 1 RS232 serial, and 1 Gigabit LAN. The module is specifically suitable for automotive applications such as vehicle and bus via the supported CAN bus (Controller-Area Network) interface, allowing microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other within a vehicle.

The Q7A-551 carrier board, with the dimensions of 190mm x 102mm, is designed for the FS700 module. The CAN-bus connector and the 9~36V wide-voltage DC-in jack on this compact carrier board are features aimed for the automotive market.

The FS700 with expansive features is a perfect product for a whole range of embedded applications that require a cost-efficient and low-power platform, such as industrial control automation, medical equipment, gaming machine, telecom, POS, kiosk, and transportation.
