A Brief Introduction to Smart Grid
Smart grid is an electric power delivery system that delivers power from the electric power control center station to consumers. It’s a modernized electrical grid that uses information and communications technology to gather information. Integrated with advanced communication technology, all equipment and devices in a smart grid are connected by components and devices to form a complete power network.
DFI’s Solution for Smart Grid – Smart Meter using BT700
With environmental protection as the main concern, smart grid is a cost-effective way of reducing power usage and increasing energy independence. It is expected to bring dramatic improvements, thus it requires a reliable platform that offers cost-efficiency and small footprint deployments. DFI offers the right solution for smart metering application that requires underlying demand in technology. For the electric meter reader, BT700 will be the best choice. It is a new Qseven module based on the Intel Atom E3800 (5~10W) processor which is specifically designed for today’s growing performance/wattage requirements of intelligent systems. Using the low-watt processor is a cost-effective way of reducing power usage. Data collected from the meter is sent to the communication system via LAN or UART. The SoC-based BT700 is equipped with 1 DDR3L onboard memory delivering maximum performance up to 4GB. With extended temperature range from -40°C to 85°C, this Qseven module could be used in extreme operating environments.
